4 Rules to Follow When You Blog for Business

In my last post, I covered some of the main reasons it is crucial to blog for your business.  Now that you understand why it is important, I will cover some things you should be doing with your blog and why.  Just blogging is not going to get your blog read, nor will it sufficiently establish you as an authority on your subject matter.  Here are some of the most important things you should be doing when blogging for your business.

1.  Be Consistent.  When clients and potential clients follow your blog, they expect to get information on a consistent basis.  You do not want to disappoint your audience by not providing consistent blog posts for them to read.  Being consistent will also help your business establish a more professional appearance to anyone visiting your website from your blog.  If your website appears “active”, people will be more willing to do business with you than if your information is old or outdated.

2.  Be Frequent.  Frequency will draw people to your website more consistently and increase your visibility.  If you are a new business trying to establish yourself, this is one of the most important things you can do to gain visibility and establish yourself in your industry.  Blogging frequently will also force you to keep up-to-date with trends and changes in your industry.  It will help potential clients understand that you care about providing for them the most up-to-date ideas.  This helps build confidence in you from people following you because they know you will strive to build value for them!

3.  Guest Blog.  Find a strategic alliance and guest blog!  A strategic alliance is someone who you can develop a partnership with to move both of your businesses forward by working together.  This could be someone from a similar industry that plays off of yours, or it could be someone in a different industry who has customers with similar characteristics as yours.  The easiest way to start is with someone from a similar industry.  Guest blogging for each other will give both sets of readers added value because they will also get relevant information from a similar industry.  You always want to add value for your readers, whether you are guest blogging or have someone guest blogging on your website.

4.  Post to Social Media!  Share, share, and share some more!  Now that you are blogging people need to find you!  I cannot stress enough how important it is for you to share your blog on social media.  You want to make sure to post your blog on the largest social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.  You also want to post it in places that may not seem so obvious.  Google+ is one platform that can be an asset to you if used correctly.  Pinterest can also be an asset to you, but you must make sure to have a picture that people will want to click on and make sure to put your blog link in the description.  You also want to post to lesser known places such as Tumblr, Reddit, and Quora. StumbleUpon will give you the ability to establish an international reader base.  Most importantly, make sure you have share buttons on your blog so others can share your great information!
