Publish on LinkedIn to Improve Your LinkedIn Ranking and Reputation
May 28, 2015
Publishing on LinkedIn will not only establish your authority over your subject matter but will also improve your LinkedIn Ranking. To demonstrate this, I did a mini experiment on my own profile. I made a point to publish on LinkedIn once per week on Wednesday to see how it would impact my profile.
What I would like to point out here is how published posts are prominently displayed on profiles right under your profile photo. LinkedIn views these published posts as an important part of your profile. This means that people visiting your profile will see your published articles before they see anything else in your profile. This is super important, especially if you are a new business and need to establish authority in your industry or position within an organization.
"Publishing on LinkedIn will not only establish your authority over your subject matter but will also improve your LinkedIn Ranking."
The key is to choose content that will highlight your knowledge and expertise, be informational for readers, and unique enough to engage them. This is a great way to connect with people you would not have otherwise connected with, and will also help grow your followers on LinkedIn. Publishing has brought me many followers that would not have heard about me if I had not published. It can do the same for you!
Followers are different than connections. Followers will get notifications of your published posts, but you are not fully connected to them. Followers are important because they want to see your content and signed up to follow it! You should pay particular attention to followers, and connect with them on a deeper level. They are already interested in what you have to say!
Let’s dig a little deeper into this. These new followers are people who read what you have to say, considered you an authority on your subject matter based on what they read and decided they wanted to see more. What greater compliment could one ask for? This is the perfect people to reach out to for a meeting in person or to schedule a phone call with to see how we can work together going forward. The point here is, YOU SHOULD DO THIS!
My goal is to help all of my clients, followers, and fans to be more successful at what they do! I want each and everyone reading this to be a success. This is the sole reason I am writing this blog.
The next point I would like to make is just how much your LinkedIn ranking can improve. I am showing a screen shot of my ranking to show you just how much you can improve your ranking, which is really how many people view your LinkedIn profile.
Your personal ranking will be different based on your profile, industry, how many connections you have, and who your connections are. I have some pretty heavy hitters in social media as connections. These folks rank at the top of the food chain on LinkedIn, so my goal is t be in the top 10% of my personal connections. As you can see, I am almost there! I improved a whopping 18% by just adding LinkedIn Published Posts to my mix of content.
Why is this important? It is important because you want to be viewed more than your competitors. Since LinkedIn Rankings are a measure of how many times your profile has been viewed in the past 30 days, it is an important measure to consider when strategizing your LinkedIn Profile. You also want to be viewed as an authority in your field, which is a vital social network for every business owner. The results here are only based on one change to my profile – adding LinkedIn Publishing. You can clearly see how much of an impact it can have on your profile.
One last note I would like to make about LinkedIn Publishing is that this is an opportunity to grow your network, impress your network, and connect with people who are truly interested in your content. My suggestion is that you use this feature to your best advantage by providing QUALITY and VALUABLE content to your followers and NOT selling and promoting. Since your followers get notifications of your published posts, you do not want to annoy them with self-promotion. Instead, show them how being connected with you helps THEM!
