Valuable Content is a MUST for Your Marketing

content marketing social media Dec 12, 2015

Providing valuable content is one of the most important things you can do for your business in the digital space.  With most information just one click away, it is more important than ever to be the authority in your industry and show up in the searches.

Content Marketing vs. Social Media Marketing

Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing has the goal of getting attention, shares and website traffic through social media posts.  This is essentially the word-of-mouth in the digital age.  This social sharing creates trust because the people sharing the social media posts usually have nothing to do with the company.  The fact that the shares are from third parties creates trust for others of the products and services. Social media marketing also allows for two-way communication between the brand and the consumer.

Content Marketing

Content marketing has the same goals as social media marketing, except content marketing also focuses on retaining customers by providing valuable content.  This content includes media and published content.  Some examples of this content include blog posts, ebooks, white papers, infographics, photos, videos, how-to guides, and now even live-streaming.

Essentially content marketing and social media marketing go hand-in-hand, but content marketing takes it a few steps further with consistent and repeated value provided by a business to its fans and followers.  Content marketing involves more detailed and researched material and tends to solve many pain points of the customers of a specific business.  The value is in the solution and the help provided to the consumer of the content.  This is what helps build long-lasting relationships and loyal customers and fans.

The Trend Toward Providing Valuable Content

In 2015, content marketing was the most important piece of digital marketing for business owners, while social media trailed behind.  This trend shows no signs of reversing anytime soon.  In fact, the trend is moving more toward content marketing through many different channels, one of them being live streaming.

Live streaming and blogging are the power pack of content marketing.  Both should provide high value. However, one benefit of live-streaming your content is that people actually get to know you, like you, and start to feel connected to you much faster, making it much more likely they will buy from you.
